Frequently Asked Questions:

Where do you suggest buying the SR20DET from?
I bought mine fromĀ SR Swap they were really helpful and I was able to call and get tech support when I needed it. Also they made sure to check the engine over before shipping it out, I found replacement parts included with my swap for all of the parts I got that were damaged.

How long did it take you to complete the swap?
We finished my swap in about 5 days or so, but we only worked on it for about 5-7 hours each day. Also it took extra time since I painted the engine bay, which meant taking out extra parts and time for paint/drying.

Is the wiring from the KA harness to the SR harness hard?
I didn’t really think that the wiring was that hard at all, just take your time and follow the instructions found onĀ SR Swap. Be sure to make good connections (solder) and use good connectors to keep everything neat and working good.

How hard is the swap and what is needed?
The main things to keep in mind for the swap is:

  • A short time where you will be without your car
  • Extra money – things will always come up that you don’t think of at first
  • Access to a lot of tools
  • Patience
  • A pretty good knowledge of cars and mechanical things
  • Make sure you have all the parts before you get started and understand what all needs to be done

My swap went pretty good I didn’t have a lot of knowledge with cars, but I had help from people that had worked on cars for awhile. So other than not being able to find some hoses and stuff for a few days I wouldn’t say there was to much that went wrong.

What would be the easiest way to complete the swap?
SR Swap has been hard at work providing all the things needed to make the swap simple. They have a wiring harness conversion which makes it a plug-n-play installation for wiring. There is a hose and basic maintenance kit available as well, using the services they offer on their site would make the swap go much easier.

How does the car run? Is it a lot faster?
The car has run great I only had only major problem, and that was the ignitor chip went bad soon after I completed the swap. It was a quick fix, but expensive fix. Second thing that happened was a speeding ticket, but what can you say about that ;) Other than that it has ran great I have made a few 3-4 hour highway drives with it and it just speeds right along. The car is definately much funner to drive its quite a rush when the turbo spools up. I can’t wait for most boost. Last of all once you get started its hard to stop you will always want more power, it’s a expensive hobby.
